Frequently asked questions
Why is Travel Insurance important?
Travel insurance is essential for ensuring a worry-free trip. Here’s why it’s important:
- Medical Emergencies: Can cover unexpected medical expenses abroad, which can be significantly higher than at home.
- Trip Cancellations: Can reimburse non-refundable costs if your trip is cancelled due to covered reasons like illness or emergencies.
- Lost or Stolen Belongings: Can protect against the loss, theft, or damage of your luggage and personal items.
- Travel Delays: Can compensate for expenses incurred due to delays or missed connections.
- Peace of Mind: Provides reassurance that you’re protected against unforeseen incidents, allowing you to enjoy your travels without constant worry.
Travel insurance is a small investment for protecting yourself from potentially significant financial losses and ensuring a smoother travel experience.
Are Travel Insurance quotes per person?
Travel insurance quotes are typically calculated per person. This personalised approach ensures that each person’s specific needs and circumstances are addressed, providing comprehensive protection for their trip. If you are travelling with a family or a group, you can take out group policies, but to do this, you will need to have each person’s specific needs and circumstances to obtain a quote. When you get a quote for travel insurance, you will be asked if you want to get a quote for yourself, a couple, a family or a group so you can customise your policy depending on who you want to be insured. The limits you see are all per person insured. If you have specific requirements, call us on 0800 542 7167.
What Travel Insurance do I need?
The type of travel insurance you need depends on various factors related to your trip. Here are some key considerations:
- Destination: Ensure your policy covers the country or countries you plan to visit.
- Trip Duration: Choose between single-trip or annual multi-trip insurance based on how often you travel.
- Activities: If you plan on engaging in high-risk activities like skiing or diving, you will need to declare what activities you plan on taking part in to find suitable cover.
- Health: Our policies do cover PEMCs if declared. Always declare your pre-existing medical conditions.
- Valuables: Ensure cover for personal belongings, especially if carrying expensive items.
- Travelers: Family or group travel insurance might be more cost-effective if you’re travelling with others.
Assess your travel plans and personal needs to select the most suitable travel insurance. For personalised advice and to ensure comprehensive protection, consult with us on 0800 542 7167.
Can Travel Insurance be cancelled?
Yes, travel insurance policies can typically be cancelled, but the terms and conditions vary by provider. Here are some general points to consider:
- Cooling-Off Period: Most policies offer a cooling-off period (usually 14 days) during which you can cancel for a full refund, provided the trip hasn’t started and no claims have been made.
- Partial Refunds: If you cancel after the cooling-off period but before the start of your trip, you might be eligible for a partial refund, depending on the provider’s policy.
- Non-Refundable Situations: Once the trip begins or if a claim has been made, refunds are generally not available.
Always review your policy’s specific cancellation terms and speak with your provider for precise details.
Will Travel Insurance cover cancellations?
Yes, travel insurance can cover trip cancellations, but the extent of cover depends on the policy. Generally, cancellation cover applies if the trip is cancelled for reasons such as:
- Illness or Injury: If you or a travelling companion falls ill or gets injured before the trip.
- Family Emergencies: Unexpected death or serious illness of a family member.
- Other Covered Events: Check your policy for specific covered reasons, which can vary.
How much does Travel Insurance cost?
The cost of Travel Insurance is dependent on a number of factors including your age and medical history. It will also depend on where you’re going and for how long, and whether you want single trip cover or an annual policy.
Will my annual policy automatically renew?
No, we will write to you 30 days before your policy is due to expire, and you’ll need to call us to run through a new quotation.
If I need to make a claim, do I come back to my broker?
No, you’ll need to contact the insurance company’s claims department. This information is in the Policy Wording.
Is Annual travel insurance cheaper than Single Trip?
Not always, no. It depends on your circumstances, and you should also consider how many trips you plan to take. We can guide you through this process and we’d always recommend getting a single trip quote if you have a holiday booked – we’ll show you the annual price alongside it.
Do you offer cruise cover?
Yes, all insurers on our panel cover cruises, and some provide cruise specific benefits, too. You will need to answer yes to the cruise question when getting your quote.
On annual couple / family policies can I travel solo?
Yes, if you buy an Annual Multi Trip policy all named adults can travel independently.
